Review of the Kong Extreme dog toys for strong chewers

This review was written by veterinarian, Dr. Marie. All of the Kong dog toys are great value for the money!  While the original Kong is known for being “indestructible”, there are some dogs that can still manage to chew pieces off of it.  The Kong Extreme is very very tough!  While there is no 100% guarantee that your dog won’t be able to chew pieces off, very few dogs can destroy an extreme Kong.

Pros:

  • Generally safe.
  • Good for dogs who really love to chew
  • You can put treats inside (or peanut butter or cheeze whiz) to keep a dog occupied

Cons:

  • Make sure you buy one that is big enough! A kong that is too small can be swollowed. There have been many dogs who have had to have an expensive surgery because of a kong that was stuck in the stomach or intestines. I have also seen a dog who had a kong stuck on his tongue and then his tongue swelled and we couldn’t get the kong off.
  • If you do use food inside of it, it can sometimes be hard to clean.

Dr. Marie’s ratings:

(5/5) Quality.
(4.5/5) Saftey.
(5/5) Value.
